On Sunday, ex-Democrat President Barack Obama posted online claiming there is still no known motive for the White House Correspondents’ Dinner shooter, Cole Tomas Allen.
“Although we don’t yet have the details about the motives behind last night’s shooting at the White House Correspondents Dinner, it’s incumbent upon all us to reject the idea that violence has any place in our democracy,” he wrote. “It’s also a sobering reminder of the courage and sacrifice that U.S. Secret Service Agents show every day. I’m grateful to them – and thankful that the agent who was shot is going to be okay.”
Obama’s post made no reference to President Trump’s condition following the attack and avoided any direct criticism of violent leftist elements.
He also wrongly asserted that the shooter’s motive is still unclear, ignoring the fact that Cole Tomas Allen sent family members an anti-Trump manifesto shortly before opening fire and had a long trail of anti-MAGA social media activity.

Additionally, according to Fox News’s Jacqui Heinrich, Cole Tomas Allen’s online accounts contained a large volume of anti-Trump and anti-Christian rhetoric.
Allen belonged to a group known as “The Wide Awakes” and had taken part in a “No Kings” protest in California.
The Los Angeles Times also reported, “In October 2024, Allen donated $25 to ActBlue, a political action committee that raises funds for Democrats, according to the Federal Election Commission. The money was earmarked for Kamala Harris’ presidential campaign. It was his only political donation listed on the FEC website in the past decade.”
Alleged Bluesky screenshots attributed to Allen show him branding President Trump as the Antichrist, advising fellow leftists to stock up on guns due to the DOJ’s attempt to restrict firearm access for transgender individuals, and claiming POTUS was secretly coordinating with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
“He also attacks JD Vance for advocating an end to America’s funding the war in Ukraine and for his criticisms of the Pope. He seems pretty fixated on Ukraine more generally,” Charlie Kirk Show executive producer Andrew Kolvet wrote on 𝕏.
President Trump addressed the shooter’s motives, saying, “The guy is a sick guy. When you read his manifesto, he hates Christians. That’s one thing for sure. He hates Christians, a hatred. And I think his sister or his brother actually was complaining about it. You know, they were even complaining to law enforcement. So he was, he was a very troubled guy.”
POTUS continued to promote peace among U.S. citizens with political disagreements, saying, “I ask that all Americans recommit with their hearts in resolving our difference peacefully. We have to we have to resolve our differences. I will say, you had Republicans, Democrats, Independents, Conservatives, Liberals, and Progressives. Those words are interchangeable perhaps, but maybe they’re not. But yet everybody in that room, big crowd, record-setting crowd, there was a record-setting group of people. And there was a tremendous amount of love and coming together. I watched, I watched and I was very, very impressed by that.”
