CNN guest Kat Abughazaleh drew pushback Thursday during a CNN panel after criticizing Alex Jones’ recent court victory blocking a takeover of Infowars by satire site The Onion – which she failed to disclose is run by her boyfriend.
During her appearance on NewsNight with Abby Phillip, Abughazaleh attempted to sound the alarm on Jones derailing The Onion’s takeover, calling it a tremendous injustice and urging Texans to seek answers – before another panelist asked if she had a “vested interest in the case,” which she confirmed.
“It’s not just about Kimmel. Last night, we saw in Texas courts that the case for Alex Jones and Sandy Hook families, which has been going on for more than eight years – these families have been tortured by this man for over a decade – he somehow found a legal loophole made just for him,” Abughazaleh, who recently lost a Democrat primary in Illinois’ 9th Congressional District, breathlessly claimed. “Even lawyers don’t totally understand what’s happening here.”
“And if you’re watching this and you’re in Texas, you should call your representative and ask what the hell is happening with that deal,” she said staring at the camera, adding, “This goes to speech all across the spectrum except for the people that align with the most extreme parts of the right.”
“Do you have a vested interest in that case?” chimed in fellow panelist and former Republican Michigan Rep. Peter Meijer, evidently aware of the answer.
“Sorry?” Abughazaleh asked.
“Do you have a vested interest?” Meijer repeated.
“Yeah, my partner owns The Onion,” the failed Democrat candidate was forced to admit, before going on to say “but, also, do you not want the Sandy Hook families to get their fair share?”
“Yeah, I do. I think Alex Jones –” Meijer tried to answer.
“Right now, this is the only deal –” Abughazaleh continued
“I think Alex Jones should be off the air, I just was saying that there are other externalities there when it comes to that,” Meijer said, adding, “I like disclosure. I like honesty. And I think the Sandy Hook families deserve everything.”
Social media users were skeptical over Abughazaleh’s claims and lack of transparency.

Was trying to hide her relationship and/or her interest in the case. Shes just awful

I'm still laughing that a failed political candidate gets to tout her bf's business deal without disclosing a conflict of interest.

They're still acting like Alex Jones was the mass shooter.

The incident unfolded as Alex Jones delivered his final farewell transmission from the Infowars studio after a court-appointed receiver in charge of Jones’ assets stopped paying operational costs, forcing the Austin, Texas-based studio to shutter.
Abughazaleh was indicted last October on federal charges, including conspiracy to impede and assaulting/impeding federal officers outside the Broadview, Illinois, ICE detention facility.
