President Trump is “not satisfied” with Iran’s latest peace proposal, he told reporters on Friday, as he warned there “may never be a deal” between the US and Iran.

The President spoke to reporters on the White House lawn on Friday. He told them Iran’s latest offer, passed to the US via mediators in Pakistan, fell well short of his expectations.

“They want to make a deal, but I’m not satisfied with it,” Trump said.

He added that Iran has offered terms he “can’t agree to.”

Part of the problem, President Trump explained, is that Iran’s leadership has been fractured by the war, and there are competing groups within what remains of Iran’s power structure, each with different aims and objectives.

“There’s tremendous discord — they’re having a tremendous problem getting along with each other,” Trump said.

“The leadership is very disjointed. It’s got two, three, maybe four groups… they all want to make a deal, but they’re all messed up.”

Iran has “made strides” during negotiations, he continued, but “I’m not sure they ever get there,” he continued, suggesting a deal could never be reached.

President Trump also said he had been briefed on Thursday about options to extend the military action if diplomacy fails.

“There are options. Do we want to go and just blast the hell out of them and finish them forever, or do we want to try to make a deal? Those are the options.”

According to The Wall Street Journal, Iran’s updated proposal softened some of its earlier conditions, including the demand for an end to the US Navy’s blockade before negotiations begin, but it offered little in the way of concessions towards limiting Iran’s nuclear ambitions. President Trump has stated repeatedly that Iran will not be allowed to acquire a nuclear weapon.

Instead, Iran wants to move ahead with negotiations to reopen the Strait of Hormuz, while pushing nuclear talks to a later date.

On Friday, President Trump told Congress that hostilities with Iran had been “terminated,” as the 60-day deadline for a Congressional authorization elapsed.

According to the War Powers Act of 1973, within 60 days of notifying Congress of armed hostilities, a president “shall terminate any use of United States Armed Forces … unless the Congress has declared war or has enacted a specific authorization for such use of United States Armed Forces.”

Friday marked the 60th day since Trump notified Congress of military operations against Iran.

“There has been no exchange of fire between United States Forces and Iran since April 7, 2026,” Trump’s letter to Congress states.

“The hostilities that began on February 28, 2026, have terminated.”

Speaking with reporters on the White House lawn, President Trump made the argument that the ceasefire with Iran had effectively “paused” the 60-day period, which meant further action is possible if needed.

“We’re on our way to another victory, a big victory, and I don’t think that it’s constitutional what they’re asking for. These are not patriotic people that are asking,” Trump said, referring to lawmakers looking to restrict his ability to conduct military operations against Iran.
