Netanyahu Expands Ground Operations In Lebanon In Contradiction To Trump’s Peace Efforts

Israel has expanded their military ground operations deeper into Lebanon on Tuesday, past a previous demarcation line (the Yellow Line) that they had established in April.

“The Israeli military has expanded its ground operations in southern Lebanon beyond a demarcation line that Israel set up several kilometres inside Lebanese territory after an April 16 ceasefire with Hezbollah, two sources said on Tuesday,” Reuters reported.

According to an Israeli military official, the Jewish State is now “operating in a targeted manner beyond the Forward Defense Line in order to remove direct threats to the citizens of the State of Israel [and Israeli soldiers] in accordance with the directives of the political echelon.”

“We are at war with Hezbollah, and we will intensify our strikes,” Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Monday night.

While a U.S./Iranian peace deal which is currently on the table requires Israel to cease hostilities against Lebanon, the Prime Minister has made it clear that he will not cooperate.

According to Reuters, Netanyahu said Israel’s military was not taking its “foot off the gas. On the contrary, I said to step on the gas even more.”

Tuesday’s expansion appears to be Israel accelerating their war on Lebanon, in contradiction to President Donald Trump’s peace efforts.

A previous buffer zone between Israel and Lebanon was established in 2000, called the “Blue Line”, it was internationally recognized as a region where Israeli military forces could operate.

“The line, separate from the U.N.-demarcated “Blue Line” marking the frontier between Lebanon and Israel after Israel’s withdrawal in 2000, forms part of a proposed buffer zone extending 5 km to 10 km (3 miles to 6 miles) into southern Lebanon, where Israeli troops continue to operate in dozens of largely abandoned villages,” Reuters said.
