Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky wants to buy advanced US drones to tip the balance of the war against Russia.

Zelensky has warned Ukraine faces a massive onslaught from Russia.

He said it would be “huge” and beneficial for the US and Ukraine if US high technology and Ukrainian battlefield experience with drones could be merged.

Ukraine’s significant progress against Russia in recent months has been largely attributed to its mastery of drones.

“American technological companies, they have a lot of different interesting AI technologies, what we don’t have. And we have a lot of things [that] they don’t have, because [of] our experience,” Zelensky told CBS News.

“I think this cooperation can be huge and the most powerful in the world.”

Although the two countries have cooperate with regard to drone-warfare, there hasn’t been a comprehensive deal of the kind Zelensky now wants.

Ukraine is aiming to produce seven million drones this year for use against Russia, by air and by sea.

In a recent interview, Secretary of War Pete Hegseth said the US has “learned so much from Ukraine and how they operate” with regard to drones.

Last week, two top Democrat lawmakers travelled to Ukraine to discuss the use of American drones.

In his interview with CBS, Zelensky also said Russia will continue its attacks across Ukraine in the coming days.

After a drone attack across all 14 of Russia’s provinces and the territories it has captured from Ukraine, President Putin responded with missile attacks against Kyiv, including the use of fearsome hypersonic missiles that are almost impossible to intercept.

“First of all, today at night, or tomorrow at night, we think that we will have big attacks from Russian side using drones, using cruise missiles and ballistic, and we see the preparation always,” Zelensky said.

“I will say that our people have to be very, very careful, cautious, and children, and they have to use bomb shelters, because today at night or tomorrow at night, a high percent, of course, nobody knows 100%, but there is a high percent” of attacks, he said.

Zelensky said Russia is stepping up its bombing campaign because they began “to lose on the battlefield.”

Ukraine’s President also echoed a recent military assessment that the next six months will be crucial in determining the course of the war.

“I think that we have a window for the negotiations, because each month they will lose more and more people, and they will lose, because of these reasons, they will lose initiative on the battlefield,” he said.

“But it depends [on] the pressure on Putin.”

Kyiv has now made Russia’s oil infrastructure a key target of drone attacks.

Ukrainian officials say Moscow’s oil revenue is directly financing the war, making it a fair target. The Ukrainians have also expressed a clear wish to prevent Russia benefiting from the Iran war and increased oil and gas prices.

Over the weekend, Ukrainian drones caused a fire and damage at a depot in Taganrog and in Armavir.

Russia’s oil-refining is now at a 17-year-low of about 4.7 million barrels a day.

Moscow has lost about $7 billion in oil revenue since the start of the year.
