Yemen’s Houthi rebels have vowed to retaliate after they accused Saudi Arabia of launching airstrikes against the international airport in the country’s capital, Sanaa.
The group’s spokesman, Yahya Saree, called the strikes “blatant aggression.”
He said the airstrikes would not go unanswered, and that the truce between the rebels and Saudi Arabia is now at an end.
Earlier today, the Yemeni government said it had exhausted all diplomatic avenues to prevent Iranian aircraft violating Yemeni airspace.
Iran backs the Houthis as a proxy group, and has “activated” them in various regional conflicts, including Israel’s war in Gaza and the current war between the US and Iran.
A Saudi-led coalition fought the Houthi rebels for years until a truce was declared in 2022.
The conflict led to one of the worst humanitarian crises in the world.
Last year, a separatist movement in the south of the country shattered the coalition led by the Saudis to fight the Houthis.
During the ongoing war between the US and Iran, the Houthis have launched missile and drone attacks on Israel and also threatened shipping in the Red Sea, especially the narrow Bab el-Mandeb Strait; although their involvement in the conflict has been significantly less than interventions during the war between Israel and Hamas.
The return to open hostilities between the Houthis and Saudi Arabia comes after the fragile ceasefire between the US and Iran broke down. Over the weekend, the US and Iran exchanged tit-for-tat attacks.
President Trump has now said the US will take over the Strait of Hormuz and become its “guardian angel.”
In an interview with Fox News, Trump said, “We’re taking over the Strait.”
“We’re going to keep the Strait, and we’ll probably run it,” Trump said.
“We’ll become the guardian of the Strait. Maybe we’ll call it the guardian angel of the Strait, and we should be reimbursed for that.”
President Trump said the US “guarded the Strait for 50 years—more—and we never got paid for it. They made all the money.”
Instead, the US will now be rewarded with “a lot of money.”
President Trump also slammed the Iranians for breaking the terms of the Memorandum of Understanding that was signed last month, beginning a 60-day period to bring the war to a complete end.
“It was a done deal, and then they broke it. They always break it. We’ve had 10 deals with these people — and so we’re just going to hit them very hard… They’re a bad group of people. They’ve been this way for a long time, and right now they’re getting their ass kicked.”

So when the music stops, Saudi Arabia owns Yemen.? From what I understand, Yemen is a farming agricultural area.
