U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) revealed on Saturday that two U.S. servicemembers were killed and several more were injured after Iran attacked an American air base in Jordan as the ongoing war continues to escalate.

The Americans and Iranians have been trading blows in recent days following the collapse of a peace deal.

Journalist Sulaiman Ahmed shared footage allegedly showing Friday’s deadly strike.

President Donald Trump responded to the deaths of the two U.S. military members, telling News Nation, “We hate to see it happen. It’s in service to our country. Very sad, it’s a very sad thing.”

“U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) and partner forces defended against Iranian ballistic missile and drone attacks. Additionally, one service member is currently missing,” CENTCOM announced. “Four American service members were medically evacuated to Jordanian hospitals. They have since been discharged. Other personnel who were evaluated for minor injuries have returned to duty. Out of respect for the families, CENTCOM will withhold additional information, including the identities of the fallen warriors, until 24 hours after the next of kin have been notified.”

Fox News reported on the attack, noting four wounded American G.I.s were treated at a Jordan hospital and have since been discharged.

Two intermediate-range ballistic missiles were fired from Iran just after U.S. Air Force soldiers arrived at the base.

Retired Air Force Brig. Gen. John Teichert told Fox he believes the deaths will push President Trump past his “threshold of patience, saying the Pentagon will likely deliver a heavy-handed response.

Teichert also suggested Iran used the recent ceasefire to rebuild some of its missile and drone arsenal, warning they’re able to get past America’s sophisticated air-defense systems.

Another retired American military expert, former Marine Corps Col. Mike Jernigan, said he believes Iran is trying to widen the war, which will in return cause U.S. forces to accelerate the campaign.

“Godspeed, heroes. Their sacrifice only stiffens our resolve,” Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth wrote on social media.

The deaths take the American service member death toll up to at least 16 since the Iran war started on Feb. 28.
