Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky claims Russia has been providing Iran with satellite imagery of US bases in the Middle East, data that would allow the Iranians to hit those bases with greater precision.
“Since the beginning of July, we have recorded active Russian satellite surveillance of the Gulf states and U.S. military facilities located there,” Zelenskyy wrote in an X post.
“These images subsequently appear in Iran.”
Russia has been monitoring two bases in Bahrain and bases in Jordan and Kuwait, Zelensky claimed.
“There is a clear correlation between Russia’s satellite imagery of these sites and Iranian strikes – both before the attacks, in preparation for them, and afterward, to assess the damage inflicted.”
Earlier this week, Secretary of War Pete Hegseth told a Senate hearing that there was some evidence of “adversary alignment”—meaning Chinese or Russian help for Iran—but he said he wished for the details to remain classified.
“But there are ways in which both of those countries are, at different levels, enabling some of the things Iran is doing,” he said.
Days later, however, President Trump said Russia and China had both told him they were not providing Iran with weapons.
“President Xi, at our recent meeting in Beijing, China, told me that he would not, under any circumstances, give or sell Weapons to the Islamic Republic of Iran — And that statement included Chinese Companies,” Trump wrote in a Truth Social Post on Friday.
“Likewise, President Putin, despite the horrible War going on in Ukraine (The relationship remains, as it does with President Zelenskyy), told me that he would not sell Weapons to Iran.”
Trump added that “it would be very bad for them [Russia and China]” if they did sell weapons to Iran.
“Certainly not in their best interests,” he added.
