Mexican Illegal Charged in Brutal Texas Murders

A previously-deported illegal alien has been arrested in connection with two separate murders in Central Texas.

On April 27, Luis Benitez-Gonzalez, 26, was arrested in Dallas on two felony charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

Investigators then used DNA samples to link him to two unsolved homicide cases dating back nearly 10 years, Fox 7 reports.

On April 14, 2018, a passing motorist found the body of 28-year-old Alba Jenisse Aviles inside a car in Bastrop County.

Aviles had last been seen with an ‘unidentified Hispanic male’ at a local club before her disappearance.

Her body showed signs of extreme physical abuse, including strangulation and being dragged through mud.

On June 21, 2024, Austin police officers located the body of 34-year-old Alyssa Ann Rivera in an abandoned house in Austin.

Rivera had been struck in the head and face with a rock, dragged into the house, and strangled with an extension cord, investigators determined.

Surveillance cameras captured Rivera walking through the neighborhood with an unidentified male two days prior.

Investigators eventually linked the two cases via DNA matches, but could not identify a suspect at the time.

In November and December 2025, police were notified about two incidents involving women being shot by the same man in South Austin.

One of the victims managed to grab the suspect’s cell phone and turned it over to authorities.

Data in the cell phone helped investigators link Benitez-Gonzalez to the murder cases and he was finally apprehended last month.

Benitez-Gonzalez reportedly admitted to involvement in all four incidents — both homicides and both shootings — but claimed they were all acts of self-defense.

He has been charged with first-degree murder, three counts of second-degree assault with a deadly weapon, and another unspecified felony, and is being held at the Travis County Correctional Complex.

Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has lodged a detainer against Benitez-Gonzalez and the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) just released details about his immigration history.

“This illegal alien from Mexico is accused of murdering two women in Texas,” said DHS Acting Assistant Secretary Lauren Bis.

“He has also been arrested for charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and possession of dangerous drugs. Alba Jenisse Aviles and Alyssa Ann Rivera should still be alive today.”

Benitez-Gonzalez was previously deported in 2020 but illegally re-entered the U.S. at an unknown location and date.
