Footage shows the moment an angry Australian bluntly told Victoria’s unpopular left-wing premier to scram while she was door-knocking, capturing her campaign’s desperation.
The edited home surveillance footage featured Victorian Premier Jacinta Allan arriving at a man’s doorstep to introduce herself, as the video cuts to the Bendigo resident abruptly telling her, “Listen, get the fuck off of my property before I call the police.”
“Why don’t you go install another machete bin somewhere?” the man added, criticizing the politician’s $13 million machete ban and amnesty program that installed machete disposal bins at police stations throughout Victoria.
The hostile interaction comes as Allan canvasses door-to-door in Bendigo to save her parliamentary seat a whopping six months before the election amid poor polling, with many residents who received unwelcome visits from the premier telling 7NEWS Melbourne her antics reeked of desperation.
Residents are furious with Allan not only over the machete ban, but for presiding over soaring energy prices, rising cost of living, increasing crime, and rampant government waste and corruption.
If Allan loses her Bendigo East parliamentary seat in November, she would also lose the premiership.
“It is quite unusual that the premier is door-knocking and is door-knocking in the electorate some several months out before the election,” Monash University political science professor Zareh Ghazarian told 7NEWS, adding, “This is a bit of the premier fighting for her political life.”
