Democrat Texas Senate candidate James Talarico is getting skewered for now professing to love barbecue, when he previously ran a vegan campaign and told people to eat less meat.
Last week, the Dem taking on Republican rival Ken Paxton in November scarfed down a BBQ plate at Smokey Joe’s in Dallas in full view of the press.
Questioned following the photo op about his previous endorsement of veganism, Talarico admitted, “I have sometimes missed the mark with statements that I’ve made,” while attempting to steer the conversation toward rising meat prices.
“I think with the rising price of beef, we may all be forced to be vegans,” he quipped.
Indeed, a clip from his 2022 state House reelection campaign showed a masked Talarico claiming he was fighting climate change by being more compassionate toward animals, announcing his campaign’s new anti-meat platform.
We have, I think, heard more and more issues of animal welfare. I think not just because it’s the right thing to do and the moral thing to do, but also, as all of you know, it’s necessary to fight climate change. It is now existential that we try to reduce our meat consumption and that we try to respect animals in all aspects of society. And so I am proud to say that our campaign has officially become a non-meat campaign. So we are only buying vegan products from our local vegan businesses… And so, the point is that I think all of us, not just policy makers, but everyone has to take personal responsibility in this effort.”
Now, as the progressive Democrat realizes he needs smoked meat lovers’ support, he has desperately been claiming he and barbecue go way back, even going so far as to say his campaign is meat-powered.
“Our campaign basically runs on barbecue these days,” declared Talarico in March, denying accusations of veganism.
The far-left Democrat took exception last month after Paxton labeled him “Tofu Talarico” in his election night victory speech.
“They’ve already called me a radical leftist. They’ve already called me a fake Christian. They’ve even called me a vegan. And those are… those are fighting words in the state of Texas,” he fired back following Paxton’s primary win last month.
“You know, I’m an eighth-generation Texan. I’ve been eating barbecue since before Ken Paxton’s first indictment,” he added.
President Trump also knocked Talarico’s anti-meat politics in the lead-up to last month’s election, saying, “You can’t get elected as a vegan in Texas.”
Desperately attempting to paint Talarico as a meat enthusiast, Democrats last month published a photo of him appearing to bite into – a turkey leg, yet another missed mark as most Texans would categorize turkey legs as festival food rather than authentic Texas BBQ.
Reports last month also identified Talarico’s girlfriend as a “committed vegan” leftist, further casting doubts on his professed love of barbecue.
The desperate pro-BBQ propaganda suggests Dems are sensing a blowout in November should Texas voters learn of Talarico’s true radical leftist anti-meat views.

He’s holding that rib with a napkin wrapped around it. Pure pussy.
This guy is a homo, period end of story.
Not only an obvious homo, but he can’t mask away the liberal lunacy all over his face.
Probably his wife’s suggestion. You do have to be a meat eater in the US Senate to be part of the club.
What “wife”? He’s not married, that is his “girlfriend”, aka a stand-in from his campaign pretending to be his beard.
PAY ATTENTION.
He’s NOT MARRIED.
He’s a homosexual.
