The owner of a house in Escondido, Calif., heavily decorated with pro-Trump memorabilia, was viciously pummeled to death outside his home last month, with an eyewitness describing how the unprovoked attack unfolded.
The attack occurred last month on May 20, at 63-year-old victim and Army veteran Kerry Sheron’s Escondido home, which was dubbed the “Trump house” due to numerous pro-Trump banners and American flags festooning the property.
Witness Anthony Cabrera described to NBC 7 last week how he was speaking with Sheron for about 15 minutes when neighbor Thomas Caleb Butler, 32, walked up to the home, banged on the door and demanded the victim come outside, calling him a “hater” and a “gay slur.”
When Sheron answered the door, Butler, a Navy veteran, punched him to the ground and kicked him twice in the head, reports NBC 7.
The attack happened “So fast it’s kind of insane,” according to Cabrera, who says he tried to break up the assault.
“The guy looked at me and said, ‘You’re going to die,’ then started coming at me,” Cabrera recalled, saying he landed a blow that made the assailant retreat.
Cabrera then attended to Sheron, who was unresponsive and bleeding profusely.
“He was out cold, he was snorting up blood. I had him put on his side so he could breathe properly,” the witness described.

Sheron died in the hospital four days later.
Butler now faces charges for murder, elder abuse, making criminal threats and battery.
Meanwhile, prosecutors are assessing whether he is mentally fit to stand trial.

Butler’s wife, Breanna, revealed plans to divorce him last month two days after the attack, calling him a “nerdy gamer” who frequently mixed alcohol and medication and was prone to fits of rage.
A friend described him to The New York Post as a Republican Trump supporter who was suffering from “severe PTSD.”
The Post reports: “Voting records in New York showed he was [a] registered Republican, but more recent records from 2023 in San Diego showed he registered as Democrat.”

No excuse for this abuse (and death). He had every right to display his political support. I would not have. I’m not particularly fond of Trump as of late. It’s been back to the old “lesser of evils” voting mode lately. The deranged neighbor deserves the death penalty, although California is probably limited to 20 lashes with a wet noodle. Anyone else wishing to display your politics on the front lawn….. get a very large attack dog.
If this was a leftist I’d still be mad.. This is a first-amendment violation at the core and out right illegal in state and federal law/code.. Not to mention mentally ill and anti-civilization
It’s probably not a good idea to decorate one’s house in pro Trump memorabilia in an area that is overwhelmingly against Trump.
What the heck was that guy thinking? Personally, I never advocate for anyone to wear gear or display yard signs that advertise one’s interest for a particular politician, sports team, or general things….plain t shirts are always best. Many years ago experts tried to warn people that it is best to be a “gray man” and blend in with the crowd, and you will never be singled out for anything. That means plain t shirt, jeans, foot wear, etc. Never advertise anything!
I’m not big on turning myself or property into a one-man, unpaid advertisement either, but the guy does (or did, I guess…) have a right to express himself as he saw fit. And that right doesn’t go away even if what he’s supporting is unpopular. If anything, voicing an unpopular opinion makes this guy a very brave individual. Most people go with the crowd. Asch Conformity Effect.
Wrong argument since it wasn’t the police beating him to death over it. The guy wanted a reaction from his neighbors over his support for Trump, and unfortunately, got a lethal reaction.
Wearing a Motorhead t-shirt is always appropriate in any situation.
But as for Trump gear, even just a bumper sticker on your car can trigger some insane lib to key your paint. Not worth the risk. Too many crazies.
Yeah, the 1st amendment doesn’t carry any magical right of freedom from consequence from the public. It simply says the govt can’t prohibit the exercise of free speech. It does jack shit to prevent a lunatic from being triggered and becoming violent. The guy should have anticipated this type of reaction and been better prepared for it.
I am really thinking we should go back to “an eye for an eye” type of justice system. If you beat someone to death, you should have to suffer the same fate. It’d work on so many levels. You kill someone, you get publicly hung. You steal, then depending on the amount you stole, you lose a finger, hand, or even an arm.

Translation, this happened in California and those WOKE prosecutors that probably smiled reading about the crime and desperately want to frame the criminal as the victim so they can avoid prosecuting him.
