‘Unbelievable! 250 Years!’ Angry Resident Confronts Mayor For Canceling Fireworks Show

An upset woman excoriated her town’s mayor for canceling its Fourth of July firework display commemorating America’s 250th anniversary.

The incident unfolded Thursday in Brockton, Mass., as an angry resident told Mayor Moises Rodrigues he lied when he promised a “big celebration” marking the event.

“I have something to say. You lied to us! You told us we were going to have a big celebration on July 4th, here at City Hall, fireworks and everything,” said the woman wearing a “We The People” baseball cap.

“You said, [Brockton Fire] Chief Nardelli didn’t so-called, ‘like it,’ but you were going to have it.”

“And now, we’re down to a one-hour social ice cream thing, flag-raising,” the woman complained, adding, “Unbelievable – 250 years!”

The mayor responded that “we were not able to get a fireworks company to produce fireworks for us,” adding, “and we don’t want to do anything illegal in this community.”

“So we’re going to do the best that we can to celebrate the 4th of July on this plaza tomorrow afternoon.”

Massachusetts requires fireworks displays to be permitted and conducted by licensed professionals, and is the only state with a total ban on personal and consumer fireworks.

The mayor, who’s under investigation for alleged sexual assault of two minors, has also imposed a temporary curfew starting at 10pm Friday, July 3, due to rowdy World Cup festivities and July 4th celebrations, upsetting many residents.

The woman’s anger reflects the frustration many Americans are feeling as dozens of cities across the nation cancel Fourth of July displays due to fire risks and budget constraints, with some turning to drone displays instead.
