President Donald Trump told The New York Post that he has left orders to his administration to bomb Iran “at levels that they’ve never seen before” if they were to assassinate him, adding “I hope you’ll miss me.” Reports from CNN say the intelligence did originate from Israel, and that the Jewish State may be trying to influence Trump into continuing his war against the Islamic Republic.
“I’ve been on their list for a long time. That’s what we’re dealing with,” Trump told the New York Post Friday. “… The only thing is, I’ve left instructions — if anything happens, to just literally bomb them at levels that they’ve never seen before.”
CNN reported Thursday that Israeli intelligence discovered the alleged Iranian plot. Trump told the New York Post on Friday that it was not Israel.
“No, no. Israel came up with nothing. No, no,” Trump told the New York Post Friday. “I’ve been No. 1 [on Iran’s kill list] for a long time, and it’s the way life is, you know.”
Trump may have only heard about the alleged Iranian threat from U.S. intel officials, but those officials may have got the information from Israel.
On Friday CNN reported that Israel may be trying to influence Trump with these intelligence reports in hopes he continues the Iran war:
The sources said there is a measure of skepticism within the US intelligence community about information provided by Israel because of that perception of the desire to impact Trump’s decision making.
To that end, Israel has increasingly attempted to feed information, both through the US intelligence community and to other more friendly administration officials that they believe could impact Trump’s thinking on Iran, as part of that effort. That includes how Israeli officials framed the intelligence revealed in recent reporting of the claimed new plot to assassinate Trump, the sources said.
On Thursday CNN reported that the intelligence originated in Israel.
“Israel shared intelligence with the United States that Iran had recently devised a new plan to assassinate President Donald Trump, two sources familiar with the matter told CNN, adding another layer of tension as a ceasefire deal between the countries comes under strain,” CNN reported Thursday. “One of the sources said the warning came this week. Another source said the U.S. had picked up a steady drumbeat of intelligence in recent weeks about possible plans to assassinate Trump, but the warning from Israel was new and concerned a specific plot.”
Some U.S. officials reportedly insinuated that the Israeli report may be a type of foreign influence operation, intended to sway Trump’s decision-making in the Iran war.
“Other American officials suggested the Israeli report could be an effort to sway Trump’s decision-making as he weighs whether to intensify American military action against Iran,” CNN said Thursday.
Trump previously made statements about Iran looking to assassinate him, statements which could open the door to Israel assassinating him to blame Iran, thus getting an expansion of U.S. military operations against the Islamic Republic.
