U.S. Border Patrol (USBP) captured a convicted child sex predator who snuck into the country for a third time last weekend.
Del Rio Sector agents assigned to Uvalde Station were conducting train checks when three subjects jumped from a railcar and attempted to abscond on foot.
One man who was apprehended was identified as Cristobal Cortes-Cartagena, a 39-year-old illegal alien from Honduras.
In 2010, Cortes-Cartagena was convicted in California for lewd and lascivious acts with a child under 14.
He was sentenced to five years in prison and was removed from the U.S. at the conclusion of his time behind bars.
In 2017, Cortes-Cartagena was arrested for reentry of a deported alien and sentenced to 18 months in federal prison.
He was also convicted by the state of California for failure to register as a sex offender and served additional prison time.
In 2021, the Honduran was once again removed from the U.S.
Cortes-Cartagena now faces up to 20 years in prison for felony reentry after deportation.
“Constant vigilance by our Border Patrol agents is paramount to keeping our communities safe,” said Del Rio Sector Chief Patrol Agent Anthony Good.
“Child sex offenders who repeatedly attempt to enter our country pose a serious threat and we stand ready to answer that threat.”
The Trump administration recently announced that there have been zero releases of illegal border crossers for 13 consecutive months.
