Eight candidates competing to replace Graham Platner – Maine’s Democratic Senate nominee who recently dropped out of the race in the face of rape allegations – gathered on Thursday night for a debate just days before the state’s nominating convention.
The affair was essentially a tryout for who could best mimic Platner’s platform, with some candidates exhibiting bizarre behavior that has become stereotypical of modern liberals.
For example, when transgender activist Ashley Webb was asked to provide his credentials for office, he awkwardly responded that he’d previously “ran for office several times” and lost, is a songwriter, and writes his own books.
At one point, Webb discussed the trans community, claiming they’re “being dehumanized” and saying, “They say we want to hurt people. I don’t want to hurt anybody, I just want to use the bathroom. And if they want me to use the men’s room I will but I don’t want to be assaulted.”
Attempting to discuss “pork barrel spending,” Webb said, “By cutting out the pork-bellying from all the bills, I’m sure that’d save a lot of money.”
Elizabeth Cote, a former medical director with Catholic Charities Maine, said she is running for office because she’s “very interested in climate,” adding, “President Trump has done about everything he can do to strip away any protections that we have on climate.”
Founder of the Maine Beer Company Dan Kleban said, “We need a pathway to citizenship,” for people who came into America illegally and have deportation orders signed by a judge.
“Almost all of them are hardworking people,” he stated.
Maine Secretary of State Shenna Bellows, who ran for governor this year and appears to be the party’s preferred senate candidate, boasted about removing President Trump from the state’s presidential primary ballot under the Constitution’s insurrection clause in 2023.
Bellows was blasted by a moderator who said, “You’ve gone 35 seconds and you didn’t give me any specifics,” after she delivered a rambling response to a question.
The Maine SOS, who is essentially being hand-selected by the Democrat Party à la Kamala Harris following Joe Biden’s last-minute presidential dropout in 2024, said without a hint of irony that her favorite idea from Graham Platner was that Democracy has been “deeply corrupted by those in Washington.”
Maine Democratic nominee for U.S. Senate in 2022 David Costello bragged about the accused rapist Platner voting for him in a past election.
Costello then supported defunding and dismantling ICE.
Dr. Nirav Shah, former Director of the Maine CDC, said he also wants to “abolish ICE.”

Laugh at them all you want; these are the people who will be running the country. Just like under Joe Biden, but even worse. So badly has Trump screwed the pooch.
