During a sit-down interview with ABC News journalist Jonathan Karl this weekend, comedian and HBO host Bill Maher rejected the current far-left trajectory of the Democratic Party and admitted he’s open to voting for Republican candidates in the 2028 presidential election.
The Real Time with Bill Maher host said, “Democrats are cowardly. Their party is being taken over now. Every day I hear about a new very radical. I feel very good about ten years ago, I did lose fans because I wasn’t going to go along with some of this crazy stuff on the left too. I didn’t change really on what I thought about the right, but I can’t just not notice stuff, which people seem to want to do because it’s all about my team or your team. But there’s some crazy stuff, you know? When we’re cheering for the intifada, I’m out.”

Asked about the moment he recently told Vice President J.D. Vance that his vote is “up for grabs,” Maher responded, “Yes, my vote is in play, because it can’t be Trump running. So, I’m NOT living in communist America. I know that the talking point is, ‘it’s not communism, it’s socialism.’ I’ve read the quotes from the DSA platform, from their own mouths, don’t tell me I’m not seeing what I am seeing! The DSA, they say things like, ‘take over key industries,’ government takeover… That’s communism.”
Maher continued to predict Democrats “will do very will in the midterms” as part of a referendum on Trump, but that “2028 is a different story” because the left is becoming increasingly radical.
“Could you see yourself voting for J.D. Vance?” Karl asked Maher, who replied, “Yes! If this is the Democratic side, yes.”
The comments resonate with millions of Americans being pushed into the arms of the GOP due to the Democrats’ increasingly communist and socialist rhetoric.

There are still a lot of us that remember communist U.S.S.R. I still remember the day the man was trying to escape East Berlin through the barbed wire, was shot, and left to bleed out for the world to watch on live tv. I also remember a lady trying to jump out of a window in the building that was part of the East German border. There was a crowd of about a 50 standing at the bottom, completely quiet, waving for her to jump and they’d catch her. Had they been heard or her seen, she would’ve been arrested and/or killed. She got away. I also remember the day Gorbachev stumbled upon a revolution happening in Tiananmen Square. No one knew it was going on until he got there for his visit. Then after days, we find out the Chinese government ran over protesters, young people sleeping in tents with tanks. I made sure my daughter knew the history and she asked her high school history teacher what communism was when the subject arose. He answered, “a political system” and that was it….no explanation. But then again, her teacher was only about 26. I don’t know if it’s Common Core or what but the history is not being taught to young people. And those that came up right before didn’t learn it either.
