A migrant from Ethiopia is suspected of brutally executing three apartment complex workers in Minnesota following a dispute over a $65 parking contract.
Reports state 30-year-old Tsegaab Binessu on Monday afternoon walked inside his apartment complex leasing office and shot three workers, 25-year-old Nansi Fuentes Zambrano, 56-year-old Dena Silcox and 43-year-old Adam Wilwerding, following a dispute.
According to his roommate of eight years, Binessu had spoken to complex staff about canceling a $65 monthly parking garage contract, saying he was going to sell his car and enlist in the Navy.
However, apartment staffers told him they wouldn’t be able to cancel his contract, at which point he went to the office in person.
“Surveillance video from the apartment office shows Silcox and Wilwerding talking to Binessu when the tenant suddenly lifts his shirt, pulls out a gun and points it at them, charges state,” KSTP reports. “He then allegedly shot Wilwerding six times and then Silcox six times.”
Binessu next walked down the hall and shot Zambrano four times.
KSTP reports Binessu told police he was frustrated with “the American system,” which he suggested prevented him from bringing his wife and children to the US, and blamed for his divorce.
He also claimed complex staff would frequently blame issues on “the system,” and admitted he had a dispute during a visit to the office, but stopped short of confessing to the crime.
“Binessu believes he was treated unfairly because he is Black and an immigrant,” court documents stated, according to Fox News.
Ramsey County Attorney John Choi noted the “shocking act of violence has shaken our community” and commended St. Paul police for quickly apprehending the suspect.
“This is senseless,” one resident told CBS Minnesota. “How deranged can someone be that you kill three people over $65?”
The Ethiopian migrant faces up to 40 years in prison for each murder.
