President Trump is considering “the most sophisticated op in history,” using elite special forces, to take Iran’s enriched uranium from its nuclear sites.
“I hate to say it, but I think the most likely way to get rid of Iran’s nuclear material, at least what they currently have, is a military operation because the negotiations aren’t going anywhere fast,” said Joseph Rodgers, deputy director of the Center for Strategic and International Studies.
A source “familiar with military planning” told The New York Post that the “deeply complex operation would involve thousands of ground troops storming Iran’s nuclear facilities—navigating boobytraps, utilizing construction crews, and maintaining a large defensive blocking force surrounding the sites.”
A small team of special forces troops would then retrieve the material.
“I think this would be one of the most, if not the most, sophisticated operations in military history,” said Rodgers.
“This would be a logistically heavy and difficult operation in a contested environment. Iran’s military is pretty destroyed, but they’re still more sophisticated than the Cubans that were guarding Maduro.”
The special forces would probably include SEAL Team 6’s Silver Squadron, the 2nd Ranger Battalion, and the Army’s 21st Ordnance Company.
In 2025, it was reported that Iran had around 20,000 pounds of enriched material.
“You need to create a secure perimeter around all of the sites that you’re trying to go in and grab the material from. That would require ground forces to secure a perimeter and then create a secure convoy route to the airstrip,” said Rodgers.
The destroyed entrances of Iran’s nuclear facilities would have to be dug out, while attacks from Iran’s military were repulsed.
The US military would also have to have complete control over a corridor of airspace to and from the facilities.
Iran is reported to have prepared its nuclear facilities for just such an attack, hardening defences and placing mines and explosives in tunnels.
It’s also been reported that nuclear centrifuges have been transported to a site at Pickaxe Mountain, near Natanz.
Instead of attempting to remove the equipment, special forces would instead collapse the facility, which would potentially prove far easier.

The “can’t let them have nukes” trope is just fearmongering by Israel to protect the Greater Israel Project. Israel wants to expand terrority and to do that you have to attack your neighbors, and they attack their neighbors without neutering Iran first they’ll face heavy attack.
I’m not worried about Iran having nukes at all. I am worried about the US economy, which Trump doesn’t seem to care about.
