A pair of illegal aliens were arrested after an elderly woman was struck and killed by a vehicle at a grocery store in Florida, authorities say.

The tragedy unfolded in Panama City Beach on May 17, but key information about the suspects just came to light this weekend.

Deborah Murphy, 82, was walking in a crosswalk in the parking lot of a Publix market when she was hit by a Toyota 4Runner traveling in reverse, according to court records reviewed by Fox News.

Murphy was knocked to the ground but the vehicle continued moving, “running over Ms. Murphy,” Florida Highway Patrol stated in an arrest affidavit.

She was rushed to a local hospital where she succumbed to her injuries.

The driver, identified as 26-year-old Carlos Suarez-Contreras, was detained at the scene.

His passenger, 29-year-old Luis Sanabria, initially fled on foot but was summoned back by a deputy who directed Suarez-Contreras to call him on the phone.

In sworn testimony, Sanabria told deputies Suarez-Contreras “was operating the vehicle at the time of the crash.”

Both men are Venezuelan nationals and are in the U.S. illegally, authorities determined.

Sanabria was turned over to Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) while Suarez-Contreras remains in local custody on a charge of driving with a suspended license while committing a moving violation resulting in death.

Suarez-Contreras is being held without bond and ICE has lodged a detainer against him.

A devout Catholic, Deborah Murphy was married for over 50 years and is survived by two daughters and a multitude of grandchildren, according to her obituary.
