On Thursday night, the House passed a 10-day extension of FISA 702 “foreign collection” after 20 Republicans broke ranks and blocked a multi-year renewal of the warrantless surveillance program. The GOP holdouts defied both House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) and President Trump, who had strongly pushed for a long-term extension.

Several Republican members of Congress slammed President Trump for his abrupt reversal on FISA, pointing out that he himself was a victim of government spying under the Obama and Biden administrations.

After helping delay a long-term extension, Rep. Tim Burchett (R-Tenn.) posted a video on X explaining that the bill he opposed would have extended the warrantless surveillance program for another five years.
