The World Health Organization (WHO) is monitoring an alleged outbreak of the Hantavirus on a cruise ship, using the situation to argue the possible global spread of dangerous viruses is exactly why the group is necessary.
While Hantavirus typically doesn’t spread between humans, the Andean strain can do so through repeated close contact between household members or sexual partners.
“Since 1 April when the boat set sail, of the 147 passengers and crew, 7 people have become ill, among whom 3 have died, 1 is critically ill and 3 are reporting mild symptoms,” the WHO wrote on social media Tuesday. “Based on the current information, including how hantavirus spreads, WHO assesses the risk to the global population from this event as low. We are working closely with health authorities from the countries involved and the ship’s operators to ensure passengers and crew get the information and support they need. WHO will continue to monitor the situation and update the risk assessment as more information becomes available.”
The following day, three passengers on the Hondius cruise ship were medically evacuated and five others are suspected to have contracted the deadly virus.
In a flashback to the Covid pandemic, passengers aboard the ship are being encouraged to engage in social distancing and wear masks.
WHO Director-General Tedros Ghebreyesus said in a video released on Thursday that the incubation period of the virus is up to six weeks, which means more cases are likely to appear in the coming days.
“This is a serious incident. WHO assesses the public health risk as low,” he stated. “It also shows why the international health regulations exist and how they work. WHO is working with multiple governments and partners on their response under those regulations.”

The World Health Organization says this is why international health regulations must exist.

WHO infectious disease epidemiologist Maria Van Kerkhove said Thursday, “I want to be unequivocal here. This is not SARS-CoV-2. This is not the start of a Covid pandemic. This is an outbreak that we see on a ship.”
Fox News correspondent Brooke Taylor reported on Thursday that a pair of Texans were onboard the ship, but “left” and returned to the U.S before the virus was identified.
“The two report they don’t have any symptoms and didn’t have any contact with a sick person while aboard the ship. They have agreed to monitor themselves for symptoms with daily temperature checks and contact public health officials at any sign of a possible illness,” she wrote.
What are the chances the duo returned from their cruise early only for a deadly virus to later spread on the ship?
Passengers who deboarded the ship and flew to Arizona, California, Georgia, and Virginia are also being monitored for symptoms, albeit currently showing no signs of illness.
The ship left West Africa on Wednesday after being stopped for two days, with local authorities refusing to allow it to dock.
After the Spanish government agreed to accept the ship, Hondius started a three-to-four-day journey where a full epidemiological investigation and disinfection process will take place upon arriving, according to the WHO.
The Washington Post reported on Thursday that “30 departed passengers from at least a dozen countries” are currently being tracked, including one woman showing signs of illness who went on two flights.
The internet is already questioning the official narrative about the ship outbreak.
One woman noted it’s odd that only two people out of 147 passengers have been posting videos on social media about the situation aboard the vessel.
The only individuals posting about the outbreak are travel bloggers named Kasem Hato and “Jake.”
Hato, told NBC News that things have “been very calm” and the “whole situation has been blown out of proportion” because of Jake’s video posts.
Despite three passengers reportedly dying of the virus, Hato said, “the situation is under control.”
When comparing videos of penguins allegedly shot by Hato and Jake during their stops on the cruise, the woman digging into the outbreak story noted the skies in their footage are completely different, one being blue and the other being bright orange.

Creating more speculation about the Hantavirus is a 2022 𝕏 post stating, “2023: Corona ended 2026: Hantavirus.”
In a 2012 post, a germ researcher said he heard someone at a National Academies of Sciences workshop say a Hantavirus transmissible between humans would be ideal for a deadly pandemic.
A flashback clip from the hit show The X-Files shows Agent Fox Mulder speaking with a man who warned of “a plague to end all plagues” while discussing the Hantavirus, saying “the secret government” is working with aliens to intentionally spark Armageddon by releasing a deadly virus.
Dr. Robert Malone suggested there is nothing to worry about and that the Hantavirus scare is being overhyped, pointing out Americans are more likely to be struck by lightning than contract the virus.
The Daily Wire’s Matt Walsh also said he doesn’t think there’s anything to worry about while noting the “public health authorities” can’t be trusted regardless of the situation.
Popular 𝕏 account “Sir Doge of the Coin” joked that sending exposed passengers back to their home countries is a “brilliant containment strategy.”
While the outbreak allegedly poses little threat to humanity, a team of scientists is reportedly working to create a vaccine aimed at preventing the virus from spreading or limiting the severeness of reactions.
BBC News reports, “Chemist Professor Asel Sartbaeva, from the University of Bath, is part of the team involving experts in the United States and South Africa currently working on a vaccine. ‘Obviously, developing a vaccine would be amazing because then we can prevent instances of this disease happening or at least mitigate the really bad consequences of the infection,’ she said.”

Gotta keep the damn rats and mice under control…it’s what killed Gene Hackman and his wife. Pretty bad shit comes from rodents.
Will it go away like covid did when I sit down to eat lunch?
I promise to put my six face masks on before getting up from the table.
