“Free Karmelo!” — Texas Woman Attacked & Viciously Beaten Outside Bar In Potential Hate Crime Attack

A viral social media post brought attention to claims by a Texas woman who said she was assaulted by several black girls who shouted, “Free Karmelo,” while beating up on “the smallest white girl they could find.”

Investigative journalist and Republican Precinct Chair for Whitehouse, Texas, Sarah Fields shared the woman’s story and photos of her injuries.

According to the victim, Sammie Lee of Longview, she had “no issues” before leaving the bar and was “jumped” while walking back to her vehicle.

“Never said a word to these girls, never looked at them, and don’t know them at all. I moved to east texas to get out of my hometown , and i’m a college student!!!!! . while getting jumped they yelling out ‘free karmelo’…. saying they was going to target the smallest white girl they could find. a case that absolutely have nothing to do with me,” she explained.

Lee went on to describe her injuries along with photos, “black eye, and staples in my HEAD! i was LEAKING blood on the back of head & my face. totally caught me off guard. THIS SHIT IS NOT OKAY!!!!! and bitches are going to jail!!!!!! the world is already a messed up place, WHAT DID YALL GET OUT OF THIS?!!!!!! the people who know me, absolutely know i didn’t deserved this.”

At only five feet three inches tall and 115 pounds, Lee said she was the “littlest person in the whole bar.”

The “free Karmelo” comment allegedly made by the attackers refers to recently convicted murderer Karmelo Anthony’s stabbing of fellow teen Austin Metcalf, which caused many Anthony supporters to engage in divisive racial rhetoric.
