Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu wants to wean Israel off American support within a decade and strengthen her ties with Gulf States.
In an interview with CBS 60 Minutes broadcast on Sunday, Netanyahu said, “I want to draw down to zero the American financial support, the financial component of the military cooperation that we have.”
He said Israel receives about $3.8 billion in US military aid a year and has agreed to provide a total of $38 billion by 2028.
Netanyahu said now is “absolutely” the time to bring fundamental change to the US-Israel relationship.
“I don’t want to wait for Congress,” he said.
“I want to start now.”
Netanyahu cited diminishing support for Israel in the US and blamed the “geometric rise of social media.”
He said a number of countries have “basically manipulated” social media to “hurt us badly.”
As Reuters reports, “Sixty percent of U.S. adults have an unfavorable view of Israel, and 59% had little or no confidence in Netanyahu to do the right thing regarding world affairs, according to a Pew survey conducted in March. Both percentages were up seven percentage points from a year earlier.”
In the interview, Netanyahu declined to say anything about Israel’s plans for the ongoing wars with Iran and Hezbollah in Lebanon, but he did say he believed regime-change in Iran would be decisive for the Middle East region.
“If this regime is indeed weakened or possibly toppled, I think it’s the end of Hezbollah, it’s the end of Hamas, it’s probably the end of the Houthis, because the whole scaffolding of the terrorist proxy network that Iran built collapses.”
President Trump is reported to have spoken with Netanyahu on Sunday and told him a deal with Iran is “my business, not anyone else’s.”
On Sunday, Axios and CNN journalist Barak Ravid said he spoke to the President after he had finished a conversation with Netanyahu.
“President Trump told me that he spoke with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu this evening and discussed the Iranian response with him,” Ravid posted on X.
“However, he emphasized that it was a brief part of their conversation. ‘It was a very nice conversation. We have a good relationship, but this is my business, not anyone else’s,’ he said in reference to the negotiations with Iran.”
In his own post on social media on Sunday, President Trump labeled Iran’s latest peace proposal “totally unacceptable.”
“I have just read the response from Iran’s so-called ‘Representatives.’ I don’t like it — TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE!” Trump wrote in a Truth Social post.
The President’s short response, which included no mention of the terms on offer, came within hours of Iran submitting the proposal.
Iran’s Islamic Republic News Agency gave some indication of the terms, saying that the regime wanted talks to focus exclusively on bringing hostilities to an end and leave talks about Iran’s nuclear program for a later date.
The Epoch Times reports, “Iran’s response is focused on efforts to end the aggression on all fronts, including Israeli attacks on Lebanon, and to guarantee the security of shipping in the Persian Gulf, according to Iran’s state TV.
“A significant point of disagreement remains over the control of shipping through the Strait of Hormuz. Iran’s state TV said the strait has been under Iranian control since the early days of the war.
“Iran’s state TV said the country has indicated it is ready to reopen the strait if the war ends permanently and the United States lifts its sanctions and naval blockade.”
On Sunday, President Trump accused Iran of “playing games with the Untied States, and the rest of the World, for 47 years (DELAY, DELAY, DELAY!).”
“For 47 years the Iranians have been ’tapping’ us along, keeping us waiting, killing our people with their roadside bombs, destroying protests, and recently wiping out 42,000 innocent, unarmed protestors, and laughing at our now GREAT AGAIN Country. They will be laughing no longer!”

Didn’t we hear the claim YEARS ago that the govt./military can supposedly read your license plate from satellites in space? Oh BUT they can’t find the Iranian missile and drone launch sites and bomb them?!? You point a laser up at a commercial jet here and they can pinpoint your location and come and arrest you, BUT when the Iranians launch a missile our satellites and other electronic eyes in the region can’t pinpoint the location it came from?!?
Why would Gulf States trust this guy? Also, his goal was to have them kill off each other. Gulf States need to unite and isolate this criminal country.
Why would Gulf States trust this guy when he’s slaughtering Palestinians? Also, his goal was to have them kill of each other. Gulf States need to unite and isolate this criminal country.
Yeah right. Without American money and our military there is no Israel. Maybe he’s seen the polling and knows every generation after the boomers is done with Israel and wants it to seem like they’re getting cut off by choice. Either that or he’s already lined up a new backer like China or India.
Look at Trump’s supposed statement to Netanyahu that a deal with Iran is “his business”. But then, he takes the Israeli position, that Iran’s offer is totally unacceptable. So, Trump takes a position which hurts the USA. I think that bowing down to Israel is Trump’s business.
There are too many signs that Trump is run by zionists.
We need to stop giving them money and support now. There is no reason wait 10 more years. He’s lying about wanting to do that anyway.
Exactly right. Let’s end it today. And not just military aid; let’s not send them another dime, for anything. That way there will be no shell game, and no kickbacks.
I’m not sure what kind of game their playing but playing it they are.
