Watch: Kevin O’Leary & Tucker Carlson Get Into Heated Debate Over Data Centers And AI

“Shark Tank” host Kevin O’Leary, also known as “Mr. Wonderful,” sat down with Tucker Carlson this week for a conversation covering the U.S. economy, the global AI race, data centers and much more.

Regarding O’Leary’s argument that the U.S. has to defeat China in the race for AI superiority, Carlson said the American government is currently “aping” their system by setting up a total surveillance grid.

Tucker went on to mock the 40,000 acre data center O’Leary is funding, saying, “Let’s take 40,000 acres in Utah and make it possible for the government to know where you are at all times and what you’re thinking, it’s listening to you on your phone – like, we have that.”

Instead of addressing the draconian spy state described by Carlson, O’Leary said people should be rooting for the “lesser of two evils” by hoping the U.S. overpowers the Chinese in computing power.

Then, the Canadian investor said, the American people can “use the laws of the United States to keep that compute power in check.”

When O’Leary claimed “the majority of people” in the Utah city where his massive data center is going to be located want construction on the facility to begin, Carlson replied, “There was a referendum among citizens?”

“Three to zero!” O’Leary answered. “The commissioners of the county.”

Carlson answered, “Oh, so three people voted. The people of the county didn’t vote.”

O’Leary argued, “They’re elected officials!”

Tucker hilariously jested, “How hard is it for Kevin O’Leary, and Amazon, and Microsoft, and Google to subvert three county commissioners in rural Utah?”

Meanwhile, it’s blatantly obvious that there is major pushback to the planned data center, which “would require more power than entire state uses and suck up vast amount of water in drought-stricken area,” according to the Guardian.

“Mr. Wonderful” slandered opponents of the project as being funded by or supportive of China.

Once completed, the facility will be twice the size of Manhattan, and thousands of Utah residents have objected to its construction.

Other communities, such as California and Nevada’s shared tourist hotspot Lake Tahoe, are already suffering thanks to data centers sucking up resources.

Fortune magazine reported Monday that “Nearly 50,000 Lake Tahoe residents have to find a new power source after their energy source looks to redirect lines to data centers.”

Elsewhere during their conversation, Carlson and O’Leary debated what will happen to mankind once AI is able to do most things better than people.

Admitting the repercussions of AI surpassing human performance is “unknown,” O’Leary again suggested the bigger threat is China and its allies defeating the U.S. in the AI race.
