Watch: Man Laments Tick Bite Made Him Allergic to Red Meat

A man who contracted Alpha-gal syndrome filmed his allergic reaction to red meat following a tick bite.

“My question I ask you, is… what purpose do ticks have?” the frustrated man asked, saying, “Look at my face and my neck.”

The man displayed large red splotches of hives on his neck and face, a common symptom of Alpha-gal following meat consumption.

“I can’t eat red meat anymore. I can’t have any animal byproducts in anything, and it’s in everything, the man says, adding, “This is Alpha-gal syndrome, this is fucked up man.”

“Fuck ticks — I love to go hiking; this is fucking crazy,” he added.

In addition to hives, other Alpha-gal syndrome allergic reactions include fever, joint pain and potentially life-threatening anaphylaxis, which may cause inflammation and restriction of the respiratory airways.

The syndrome was blamed for the mysterious death of JetBlue pilot Brian Waitzel in 2024.

Earlier this month, podcast host Joe Rogan and guest Rep. Tim Burchett (R-Tenn.) recounted how people they know have contracted Alpha-gal following tick bites.

The affected man’s video comes as states are reportedly bracing for one of the “worst tick seasons in years,” with an uptick in Lyme disease and Alpha-gal syndrome cases being blamed on black-legged and lone star ticks respectively, while reports of ticks being air-dropped into farmlands abound.

The increase in Alpha-gal has prompted several states to call for cases to be tracked: Massachusetts recently began allowing residents to report cases, and a bill in Missouri is making its way through the legislature, but other states like New York are urging similar tracking.

One farmer recommended people acquire guinea hens to rid their properties of disease-causing ticks.

In another video, a land surveyor recommended outdoor recreationists spread sulfur dust on boots, saying it’s “like kryptonite” to ticks and chiggers.

While outdoorsmen are being urged to take precautions, one man says he’s not buying into the fear campaign over Alpha-gal, saying the disease is being hyped to make people “scared of spending time in nature.”

Meanwhile, Big Pharma companies like Pfizer and Moderna are working on producing vaccines for Lyme disease.
