Seattle Neighborhood Installs Road Barricades In Response to Rising Crime

A Seattle, Wash., community is responding to a violent crime wave by installing large makeshift barricades blocking criminals from driving through their neighborhood.

Residents of the Aurora Avenue neighborhood say they were left no choice following a spate of gunfire incidents where bullets have hit cars and homes, as crime and violence from the inner-city pours out into residential areas.

Photos show large metal planter boxes erected in the middle of the road blocking traffic from traveling through the neighborhood.

Previous barriers put up were apparently vandalized, prompting neighbors to fortify the latest barriers with stronger reinforcements, adding a message that states “No Gunfire,” according to Fox 13 Seattle.

Neighbors say out-of-control prostitution is a major reason for the violence.

“We have nightly prostitution, we have the gun violence that is coming along with it,” one resident told Fox 13, adding that “a revolving door of pimps and johns regularly circles the neighborhood.”

Some of the barriers contain notes apologizing for the inconvenience.

The frustrated residents say they’ve had to take matters into their own hands since city leaders including Seattle Mayor Katie Wilson have not responded to their pleas for help.

“What we’ve gotten is a lot of nothing,” another resident remarked to Fox 13. “It’s terrifying to live here, and it’s even more terrifying that the city is absolutely doing nothing to protect the citizens in this neighborhood.”

“We’re just afraid that a neighbor is going to have to die before the city will do something,” added another neighbor.

Yet another neighbor recounted how one bullet flew into his home, nearly striking his son.

“My wife and I have been shocked,” the resident related. “We could’ve lost our son. Thank God he’s alright.”

KOMO News points out the barriers come with safety concerns, considering they could block first responders from reaching emergencies.

Evidently, the barricades are not enough as another news report showed a Honda Element circumventing one of the barriers by driving around it.

Social media users mocked the residents, arguing the leftist policies they voted for had come home to roost.
