Incredible surveillance footage out of Argentina shows the moment an elderly retired police officer defended himself and his wife by using a concealed firearm to fend off motorbike thieves, fatally shooting one as the other sped away.
The incident unfolded Wednesday in the Buenos Aires province of Avellaneda, as the 71-year-old man and woman returned home.
Video shows one of the robbers approach the man brandishing a gun and demanding cash, while the other thief rolls up on the bike.
“Don’t get yourself killed for money,” the thief tells the man, who struggles to resist as his wife comes to help. Meanwhile, his accomplice yells, “Shoot him!”
The robber then turns his attention to the wife and tries to grab her purse, knocking her down to the ground as she refuses to let go, while his motorbiked partner is on standby for a quick getaway.
The husband holds on to his wife’s purse and is also knocked to the ground, at which point the thief briefly retreats and hesitates before attempting to retry his effort.
At this point, the husband was able to retrieve a handgun from his wife and fire several shots at the thieves, prompting the robber on the ground to try to flee as his partner on the motorbike sped off in front of him.
The injured robber is soon seen collapsing onto the street, as the husband goes and inspects the body.
According to Argentine media outlet Todo Noticias, authorities don’t plan to file charges against the former Argentine Federal Police officer, who clearly acted in self defense.
Police located a metallic 9mm replica pistol next to the deceased would-be thief, and are searching for his accomplice, who remains at large.
The harrowing event is just one more example of how handguns represent “the great equalizer,” in this case helping innocent vulnerable law-abiding citizens defend themselves against opportunistic street thugs.

Why did he wait so long? He seemed more interested in saving the purse than his wife. He’s lucky the criminal had no intention of shooting either. A hardened criminal or a panicked younger one would have put a bullet in the wife for making it difficult, and finished him off as he laid like a helpless infant on the sidewalk. His wife had the gun holstered on the backside of her waist and gave him plenty of opportunity to pull it and use it when she got between the two and started distracting the criminal.

I love that he killed him but it really pisses me off that he had his bitch packing for him. Sure, she should be carrying just in case, but he should be the designated shooter, not his hysterical twat. Don’t get me wrong, there’s some hard bitches out there who can really send it under pressure, but they’re few and far between, better to take care of business yourself. And I say this as someone who has killed in self defense, I still get satisfaction from it decades later, it’s that empowering.

Dumb as hell. The robber is brandishing a gun – why resist? Want to get shot? Give up the goods and then take out your concealed gun if you must.
But… the robber clearly had no intention of shooting, and for the husband then to shoot him dead after the scuffle was unnecessary.
