(LifeSiteNews) — A man has been arrested after stabbing and wounding multiple people while shouting “Allahu Akbar” at a train station in Switzerland.

According to a Zurich Cantonal Police media statement, the suspect attacked and injured three people with a knife at the Winterthur train station on Thursday morning.

In comments to Swiss newspaper Tagesanzeiger, an eyewitness who works in an office building across from the scene said that, around 8:30 a.m., a middle-aged man shouted “Allahu Akbar” (God is greater) and stabbed multiple men with a knife.

Just at that moment, a school class happened to be passing by the scene. The female teacher immediately stepped in front of the children to protect them, the source stated.

Another witness confirmed that a man had been running around in the area and attacking people. A spokesperson for the Zurich Cantonal Police confirmed that three people, aged 28, 42, and 52, were injured “with a bladed weapon,” one of them severely. The two others sustained moderately serious injuries.

The suspected perpetrator, a 31-year-old of Swiss nationality according to the police statement, was arrested. The motive of the attack remains officially unclear, although an Islamist motivation seems likely given the “Allahu Akbar” exclamations.

The attacks apparently took place at various locations in the station. A total of three areas around the underpass were temporarily closed off.

  1. Just because the perp’s first name is Mohammed and he was screaming, “Allah u Akbar” while stabbing people, does not mean he was
    necessarily a Muslim.
