The US military struck targets in Iran this weekend as negotiations to bring the war to an end continue. Iran’s Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) said it targeted a US base in response.

Although there is currently a ceasefire in place, both sides have engaged in limited exchanges. A similar exchange took place on Thursday.

According to US Central Command (CENTCOM), the strikes along Iran’s Gulf coast were due to “aggressive Iranian actions that included the shootdown of a U.S. MQ-1 drone that was operating over international waters.”

“U.S. fighter aircraft swiftly responded by eliminating Iranian air defences, a ground control station, and two one-way attack drones that posed clear threats to ships transiting regional waters.”

On Monday morning, the IRGC said it targeted an unnamed US base in response to the attack.

The base was probably in Kuwait, where missiles and drones were intercepted on Monday morning. State news agency KUNA provided no details.

In a post on Sunday evening, President Trump said Iran “really wants to make a deal,” and bashed “Dumocrats” and “unpatriotic Republicans” for criticizing him and making negotiations harder.

“Iran really wants to make a deal, and it will be a good one for the U.S.A. and those that are with us,” President Trump wrote on Truth Social.

“But don’t the Dumocrats, and various seemingly unpatriotic Republicans, understand that it is MUCH tougher for me to properly do my job and negotiate, when political hacks keep negatively “chirping,” at levels never seen before, over and over again, that I should move faster, or move slower, or go to war, or not go to war, or whatever. Just sit back and relax, it will all work out well in the end – It always does!”

Oil prices rose 2% at opening on Monday morning, as a breakthrough in negotiations between the US and Iran continues to prove elusive.
