Footage out of Texas appearing to show a hunter from Wyoming torturing a wounded coyote has sparked backlash, with some calling for the man in the video to face prosecution.

The video, first published by CowboyStateDaily.com on June 12, features a hunter dragging a bleeding coyote out of a hole by the tail before flinging it several yards.

The man then runs after the coyote as it limps away and kicks it in the face as it falls over, while another person films.

Warning: Disturbing footage – viewer discretion advised!

The hunter then stabs the coyote in the shoulder as it takes its last breaths, before kicking it again in the head, forcing the coyote to look toward him as he begins to taunt it with a knife.

The disturbing footage, which is from 2019 or 2020, has drawn backlash from critics and animal rights activists alike due to the man failing to kill coyote in a timely manner and prolonging its suffering, prompting calls for the man to be criminally charged.

The man in the footage, Aron Snyder, came forward this week apologizing for his actions and admitting it was “a very bad optic.”

Snyder recalled the incident happened “after an ice storm” in Texas, and that coyotes had been “wreaking havoc on my buddy’s cattle, horses (and) dogs, as they do.”

He explained, “When I got to it (the coyote), um, it wasn’t dead, it was still alive…Pulled it out of a brush pile, um, kicked its legs out from under it, stabbed it, you know, it was growling at me, I kicked it again.”

Snyder admitted he’d left his gun in the truck and that the video was “a very bad optic, I understand that, for the hunting community. That wasn’t my intention but even when I watched it, it looked bad.”

He said after watching coyotes “tear apart” livestock and dogs “you do lose value and respect for them (predators),” adding, “That’s not an excuse, that’s just a fact of life, and my actions that day showed that.”

After footage of the botched coyote kill came to light, the company Snyder worked for, Born Primitive Outdoor apparel, announced it would be terminating his employment.

“Born Primitive Outdoor supports ethical hunting and holds itself and its partners to that standard,” the company wrote on Instagram.

“The behavior shown in the video involving Aron Snyder does not align with that standard. As a result, Aron Snyder is no longer an employee of Born Primitive.”

While a statute of limitation for animal cruelty in Texas has possibly expired, Wyoming has a “clean kill” law making it illegal for hunters not to quickly deliver fatal blows to wounded animals which does not have a limiting statute.

The law was inspired by hunter Cody Roberts, who in 2024 brought a wolf he’d run down with a snowmobile to a bar to show it off with its mouth taped shut, before “taking it out back and shooting it,” according to CowboyStateDaily.com. In that case, Roberts was sentenced to 18 months probation, a $1,000 fine and court fees.

Coyote protection group Project Coyote condemned Snyder’s actions, with the group’s founder Camilla Fox saying, “What this video appears to depict is not hunting, predator control, or anything resembling sportsmanship. It is sadistic cruelty inflicted on a sentient coyote.”

“The shocking brutality on display in this video has no place in legitimate wildlife management and does not reflect the values of the vast majority of hunters, ranchers, and conservationists.”

Animal rights groups Animal Wellness Action and Center for Humane Economy this week also offered a $3,000 reward for info that would lead to a felony conviction of Snyder.

While pro-animal advocates and groups were outraged, several hunters on X defended him, arguing that in hunting kills aren’t always clean and that damage done to wildlife and livestock by coyotes is far more horrific.

The Wyoming Game and Fish Department has said it is reviewing the video, and it remains to be seen whether prosecutors decide to take up the case.

  1. AJN Live would rather show pics/film of a coyote being tortured instead of what our greatest ally is and continues to do to innocent men, women and children just because they are not je w ish

    1. You’re worth as a human is determined by how you treat those you view as inferior to you. We already know the quality of the people that make up our “greatest ally”. This just illustrates we have the same quality of people at home.

  2. There are YouTube videos where farmers/ranchers unleash a pack of dogs from a truck to control the local coyote population. What happens to the coyotes when the dogs get them is just as ugly.
