Federal authorities arrested an illegal alien who was operating a big rig without a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL).
Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) just released details about the bust, which unfolded in Virginia on May 27.
Targeted enforcement on Interstate 81 led to the apprehension of Lins Dos Santos-Melo, a Brazilian national who was found to be illegally present in the U.S.
Dos Santos-Melo possessed a valid Massachusetts driver’s license, but did not hold a CDL, which some states do issue to illegal aliens.
The Brazilian was taken into custody by Homeland Security Investigations and the vehicle was seized.
“Commercial driver’s license requirements exist for a reason,” said acting ICE Director David J. Venturella. “When someone gets behind the wheel of a vehicle this size without the training and qualifications required by law, they’re putting every family sharing that roadway at risk.”
“Lins Dos Santos-Melo had no legal basis to remain in the United States and no legal authority to operate that vehicle. ICE will continue working with our law enforcement partners to identify and remove those who disregard our immigration laws and public safety laws.”
Foreign big rig drivers are wreaking havoc on American roadways, as we frequently report.
