New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani, a Muslim born in Uganda, is being criticized for leaving out some of the Big Apple’s core demographics from a recently released map of the city’s “immigrant enclaves.”
One New Yorker joked, “Apparently, I grew up in little Palestine, not Bay Ridge!” adding, “No Jews, Irish, Greeks, Swedes, Koreans or Italians in NYC — what?!?!?!”
Isabella Redjai of The Free Press interviewed locals in Little Italy – one of New York City’s oldest immigrant communities – to get their take on being left off the mayor’s map.
Several Italians expressed disdain for Mamdani and detailed the history of Little Italy as well as its impact on the city.

The Italian American Civil Rights League 𝕏 account posted an image reading, “Little Italy will not be erased,” along with a message stating, “We were here before Zohran. We will be here long after Zohran. Little Italy will NOT be erased.”
Journalist Dave Rubin commented, “The Italians, Jews, Irish, Greeks, Puerto Ricans and all other real New Yorkers are slowly forming old school pact to save NYC…”
New York City talk show host Sid Rosenberg ranted against Mamdani for leaving German, Irish, Jewish and Italian neighborhoods off the map.
Former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani also blasted the socialist politician, writing, “Mamdani’s decision to leave out Little Italy on his map of enclaves within New York is beyond shameful. Italian-Americans contribute so much, not just in New York City, but the entire nation. He also left out Irish and Jewish enclaves. We all know what’s going on here…”
