President Trump issued an ultimatum on Friday to reopen the Strait of Hormuz and stop attacking commercial shipping.

US officials warned Iran that she must publicly declare the Strait of Hormuz to be open by Saturday, or face significant retaliation.

Iranian officials are due to visit Oman today to meet with mediators. The US believes a statement will be issued after the meeting.

“What we’re demanding is that the Iranians issue a public statement that acknowledges all channels of the Strait of Hormuz are open and they’re not shooting at ships anymore,” a US official said.

“They’re either going to give us that statement, or we’re not going to have a good outcome.”

If Iranian officials leave the meeting without making a statement, “it’s not going to be a great day for them,” the official added.

A new US mission, informally dubbed “Operation Bitch Slap,” is taking place.

President Trump declared the ceasefire to be “over” and authorized a two-day air campaign to hit close to 200 sites in Iran.

The President has also sent a number of ships, including two aircraft carriers, towards the coast of Iran. He has also threatened to revive the Navy’s blockade of Iran’s ports.

“More than 20 US Navy warships are patrolling waters across the Middle East as CENTCOM forces continue promoting regional security and stability,” US Central Command posted to X.

President Trump declared an end to the ceasefire on Wednesday, after Iranian attacks on three commercial ships in the Strait of Hormuz, which caused shipping to grind to a standstill.

Under the Memorandum of Understanding signed in June, negotiators have a deadline of mid-August to work out details of a final peace deal.
