A worker at a migrant-processing center in Colorado was arrested on suspicion of shooting and wounding a woman.

The shooting, at a facility operated by the GEO Group in Aurora, took place on Thursday evening.

Brandon Booth, 42, was arrested on Thursday and booked on suspicion of attempted second-degree murder, first-degree assault, attempted first-degree assault, felony menacing and unlawful carrying of a concealed weapon.

The victim was apparently shot in the lower body. Her injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

There was violence outside the facility on Thursday during a demonstration in which protesters blocked access to the facility.

According to police, Booth opened fire with a personal handgun in the direction of two protesters who were confronting GEO employees and taking pictures of their vehicles.

After hitting one of the women, Booth left the scene in his car.

Recent fatal shootings by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents, apparently in response to two attempted vehicle rammings, have made immigration enforcement tactics a national political issue again.

The two shootings, one in Texas and one in Maine, briefly led to a pause in ICE stop-and-searches, until the order was overruled by President Trump.

GEO is one of the largest private prison operators in the US, and has faced accusations of inhumane treatment of migrants by left-wing politicians and activists.
