When his colossal blunder in Iran didn’t turn out to be the quick, clean victory he assumed was common throughout history the “art of the deal” fraud Trump gave up and let the situation he caused in the Persian Gulf decay into uncontrolled escalation and chaos like another one of his casinos toppling into insolvency.
Trump’s singular justification for breaking-and-owning Iran whatever the cost was so it would never acquire a nuclear weapon, but now after his historic fuçk-up there’s NOTHING TO STOP Iran from developing and enriching at will for the foreseeable future with no agreement, no inspectors and no oversight whatsoever.
The U.S., the world, and even Trump would clearly have been better off keeping Obama’s carefully negotiated deal with Iran, but instead America faces what could become its next Vietnam or Iraq with no way out in sight.
Thanks to Trump the Strait of Hormuz went from open and free to threatened and taxed, tight controls on Iran’s nukes went to no controls at all, and the Iranian people went from wanting to overturn their Islamic rulers and return to modernity to running back to them out of nationalist self-preservation.
By the time Trump nears leaving office beneath a torrent of regret and resentment from the American people he’ll be begging for the relatively positive reviews of Biden’s withdrawal from Afghanistan.
