Secretary of State Marco Rubio announced Thursday that President Donald Trump’s policy toward Iran is not an eye-for-an-eye policy, but rather a head-for-an-eye policy.
The Trump administration official made the statement by upping the ante on a statement from Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, who said Tehran’s policy is an eye-for-an-eye.
“The President’s policy is a head for an eye,” Rubio said Thursday. “I mean honestly, that’s what it’s going to be. I mean, they will pay a very heavy price for the things they’re doing.”
On Wednesday Araghchi said that Tehran’s policy in the war is an eye-for-an-eye:
Our defense doctrine is clear: eye for an eye.
Any aggression against Iran, including our infrastructure, will compel a powerful and decisive response.
Those who contribute to such aggression, whatever the kind of support, will also be considered as legitimate targets.
Days before the term “eye-for-an-eye” began to be thrown about by top government officials, Alex Jones Live reported that Trump adopted an “eye-for-an-eye escalation trap” policy with Iran.
The term was sparked off after Trump announced Monday that attacks by Iran will be reciprocated with larger U.S. counterattacks.
The policy appears to place the ability to deescalate the conflict entirely within the control of the Islamic Republic, risking an escalation spiral.

The principle of an eye-for-an-eye described proportionality of justice in “Hammurabi’s Code” of the Babylonian Empire, located in Mesopotamia, modern day Iraq.
“The concept of ‘Eye-for-an-Eye,’ also known as talion or lex talionis, is rooted in the principle of proportional justice, asserting that the punishment for a wrongdoing should correspond directly to the offense. This idea is famously encapsulated in the ancient legal codes, particularly Hammurabi’s Code from Babylon, which dates back to the eighteenth century BCE. Variations of this principle are found in significant religious texts such as the Jewish Torah, the Christian Bible, and the Islamic Koran, each contextualizing talion within their moral and ethical frameworks,” EBSCO said.
Many have questioned and criticized the proportionality of justice levied by the U.S. in Iraq during the Second Gulf War. One example is the lyrics of the Sum 41 song “The Jester” which said, “An eye for an eye only leaves us all blind.”
The song, released in 2007, discussed a theoretical death and deliverance to Hell of former President George W. Bush for his role in the Second Gulf War. Another song, “March of the Dogs,” off the same album “Underclass Hero” was even more direct in its violent rhetoric about then-President Bush. It nearly resulted in the band’s vocalist and song writer Deryck Whibley being deported back to Canada.
While an eye-for-an-eye policy toward Iran may theoretically mean a proportionality of justice in combat operations, it cedes the ability to deescalate to Tehran. A head-for-an-eye policy is purely escalatory.

It’s impressive and downright reassuring to have such BTDT hardasses at the helm. No ‘speak softly and carry a big stick’ here. Guys like Rubio are as tough as tough gets. They’ve been down in the mud and the blood and it shows. You know they really mean what they say because they say it so loudly and relentlessly!
I think what Rubio is saying here is that every time a younger than military age male looks at him, he is demanding head from the poor subject.
How does rubio sleep at night? He curses trump every night for dragging him down, you could tell he was not into the very first boat strike at all. Satan waits for you rubio there will be no money for you to buy protection
