An illegal alien from Mexico is a facing a slew of charges in connection with a violent rampage in North Carolina last week, authorities say.
The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) just released information about the suspect, who was arrested following a shocking string of events that unfolded in Guilford County on May 28.
Prosecutors say Victor Adulfo-Herrera was driving a vehicle involved in a hit-and-run collision that left a man seriously injured.
On the same day, Adulfo-Herrera allegedly broke into his ex-wife’s home while she and another man were present.
Adulfo-Herrera then poured out a large quantity of gasoline in unsuccessful attempt to set the residence ablaze, prosecutors allege.
He was arrested a short time later by the High Point Police Department.
He has been charged with attempted arson, hit-and-run resulting in injury, assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill, break-and-enter to terrorize/injure, and damaging property.
Additionally, Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has lodged a detainer against Adulfo-Herrera, who entered the U.S. illegally at an unknown location and date.
Adulfo-Herrera required a Spanish interpreter during his initial appearance in court.
He has a criminal record that includes a prior arrest for driving while impaired.
“This illegal alien from Mexico faces multiple criminal charges, including attempted arson, hit-and-run, and assault with a deadly weapon,” said DHS Acting Assistant Secretary Lauren Bis.
“He is a danger to Americans and has no business being in our country. ICE lodged an arrest detainer with our law enforcement partners to ensure he is turned over to ICE, so that he can never again roam our streets and threaten our communities.”
