The US and Iran have “never been closer” to reaching a peace deal than they are currently, according to Iran’s Foreign Minister.
Abbas Araghchi said an agreement to extend the current ceasefire, reopen the Strait of Hormuz and begin fresh negotiations over Iran’s nuclear ambitions could soon be reached.
“The Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding has never been closer. Pending its finalization, the media should refrain from entering speculation about its content. In line with our responsible and transparent approach, all details will be shared with the public in due course,” Araghchi wrote on X.
Aragchi’s positive comments were echoed by Pakistan’s Prime Minister, Shehbaz Sharif, one of the main mediators between the warring parties.
Sharif wrote on X that “an agreed upon text of the peace deal has been reached” and Pakistan was working with the US and Iran on next steps.
In recent days, there have been conflicting reports of the terms of the deal, leading some to claim it is a less favorable version of the agreement reached with the Iranians by President Obama in 2015.
President Trump lashed out on social media after Iranian media reporting on the deal, saying the “terms that Iran leaked out… have NOTHING to do with the terms that were agreed to, in writing.”
“Very dishonorable people to deal with. With them, there is no such thing as dealing in good faith,” Trump added.
“They better get their act together, and FAST!”
Prime Minister Sharif has said actors “who want to sabotage the peace deal” are conducting a campaign of lying and misinformation, but “peace has never been this close as it is now.”
It is likely that the deal has been agreed by high-level members of the Iranian regime, but has yet to receive the seal of approval from Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei.
On Friday, Vice President JD Vance wrote a longer post on X attempting to clarify conflicting reports about the terms of the deal, including whether and how Iran would receive access to its frozen assets, worth billions of dollars.
“I’m seeing a lot of fake information about a potential deal to reopen the Strait and end Iran’s nuclear weapons program,” the Vice President wrote.
“First, the Iranians are not receiving any cash, and no funds are being released for simply signing a deal or attending a meeting. The deal is structured to ensure that the US and its allies concerns are prioritized, and that if the Islamic Republic of Iran meets its obligations, then economic benefits will flow to them and to the entire region. This deal has the potential to remake the region and lead to lasting peace.
“I’ve noticed a couple of bizarre things in the reporting over the last few hours. First, people who (rightly) said Donald Trump was a historic president a month ago now criticizing a deal based on unconfirmed media reports. Second, people who say you can’t trust a word said by the IRGC who apparently believe anonymously sourced social media posts.
“The president is going to get us a good outcome, one way or the other.”

If Israel doesnt get full control of Irans banking and economy, Israel will keep bombing.
So, is Trump embarrassed with the terms? Is he against openness? Are his zionist friends Kushner and Witkoff again sabotaging negotiations?
It appears that the terms will set things back to before the Israel/USA surprise attack, but with Iran getting some of its money back. If so, that means we lost, and it means as we knew before, Trump attacked only to please Israel.
Absolutely. Trump had to fulfill his sidebar agreements with Israel.
