Trump Now Wants To End Ukraine War

President Trump expressed an “urgent” desire to end the war between Russia and Ukraine during a phone call on Sunday with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

The call took place just hours before the President Trump confirmed a peace deal between the US and Iran.

“As you might expect, it was not merely an exchange of pleasantries,” Russian foreign policy adviser Yuri Ushakov said.

He said the discussion was “informal” and that President Trump said he would use the upcoming G7 summit, due to take place this week in France, to stress “the importance of ceasing hostilities.”

“He claimed that he is ready to influence both his European partners and Kiev, including during the upcoming contacts at the G7 summit,” the Russian adviser added.

President Trump is also reported to have said that new possibilities for cooperation between the US and Russia could open up if peace is secured.

In a separate phone call the same day, President Trump also spoke to Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky.

“President Trump @POTUS and I had a very good conversation today on many key topics: the war, its roots, diplomatic opportunities, and the positions of our partners,” Zelenskyy wrote in a post on X.

“I thanked the U.S. President for all the assistance the United States has provided,” he said. “We agreed on our meeting—in the coming days, G7 meetings will take place in Europe, and of course, Ukraine, our defense, and our prospects for achieving peace will be among the main topics.”

The peace deal with Iran was officially announced at 5.30pm ET on Sunday.

“The Deal with the Islamic Republic of Iran is now complete,” Trump wrote on Truth Social.

“Congratulations to all! I hereby fully authorize the toll free opening of the Strait of Hormuz, and, simultaneously herewith, authorize the immediate removal of the United States Naval blockade. Ships of the World,start your engines. Let the oil flow!”

A signing ceremony is expected to take place in Switzerland on 19 June.
