An 18-year-old gunman who was reportedly obsessed with the Columbine school massacre shot and killed two people at a California library on Monday, also injuring a child.
The suspect, Bradley Scott Sayer, allegedly entered the Chico Library in Chico, California, and opened fire.
Police responded quickly and were able to apprehend Sayer as he tried sneaking out the back door of the library.
A bystander named Jeannie Lee Schroeder recorded footage of the arrest, with officers chasing down and tackling Sayer to the ground.
“I was surprised the police officers were at the front of the library on the Sheridan side of the library as we were going past. I saw somebody in a white colored T-shirt running and then two police officers take them down and tackle them to the ground, and it just registered oh my God they got him,” Schroeder told Action News Now. “One (officer) was behind. He was running toward the street, and then one person was coming from an angle in front of him, and another person, a police officer, was coming from behind. I couldn’t believe I was witnessing it in real time.”
Sayer was booked at the Butte County Jail on two counts of murder and the FBI is assisting in the investigation into the shooting.
Chico Police Chief Billy Aldridge told reporters on Monday evening, “The incident tonight was obviously very sad and very traumatic for a lot of people — very traumatic for our community.”
Police then said in a Tuesday press release that the suspect had no connection to any of the victims and was hoping to commit a spree similar to the Columbine High School mass shooting.
The Butte County Board of Supervisors meeting Tuesday identified the victims as 46-year-old Jacob Hull and an unnamed 74-year-old man.
Footage shared by the California Post shows Saylor graduating high school just weeks ago.
Sayler is scheduled to make his first court appearance Thursday.
