Lance Schroyer has been nominated as the new director of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), President Trump announced.
In a post on Truth Social, President Trump said Schroyer, a former state trooper and US Marine, has valuable practical experience working with ICE and law enforcement.
“Lance has firsthand experience getting Illegal Aliens OFF our streets and, just like ME and our Secretary of Homeland Security Markwayne Mullin, he LOVES the men and women of ICE,” Trump wrote.
“He is a PATRIOT with real operational experience, and proven leader with DECADES of experience locking up the worst of the worst, including spearheading 287g [sic] Law Enforcement partnerships with ICE!”
President Trump continued: “Importantly, Lance Schroyer has what it takes to DETAIN AND DEPORT Illegal Alien Criminals, including murders, rapists, and drug traffickers at a rate never seen before!”
Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Markwayne Mullin has been acting as director of ICE since Todd Lyons stepped down in April.
It has been eleven years since the Senate confirmed an ICE director.
In related news, more than 10,000 gang members have been arrested by ICE during President Trump’s second term.
“These 10,000 criminals committed heinous crimes, including murder, assault with a deadly weapon, drug trafficking, racketeering conspiracy, robbery, and extortion,” the DHS said in a statement.
The 10,000th gang member arrested was a member of MS-13 from Mexico.
He had previously been arrested for possession of a weapon and cocaine, and abducting a woman.
Among the gang members arrested were individuals wanted for multiple murders, including an MS-13 member who confessed to killing five people in his native El Salvador.
DHS Secretary Markwayne Mullin said a significant number of the gang members caught by ICE had been released into the US by the Biden administration.
“These vicious criminals murdered, assaulted, robbed, and terrorized innocent Americans for sport,” Mullin said.
“Thanks to the Secure America Act, ICE is turbocharged to arrest even more gang members and criminals from American neighborhoods.”
The Secure America Act, which was signed into law at the beginning of the month, funds immigration enforcement through 2029, providing $38 billion in additional funding, including $5 billion for technology and screening equipment.
