An armed suspect was killed amid mayhem this weekend in Memphis, Tennessee, authorities say.
The incident unfolded at around 4 a.m. on Sunday.
Memphis police officers engaged the suspect in a foot pursuit after shots were fired near Beale Street.
Tennessee National Guard soldiers assigned to the Memphis Safe Task Force were nearby and joined the chase.
During an ensuing escalation, two soldiers opened fire, killing 20-year-old Tyrin Johnson, the Tennessee Bureau of Investigations (TBI) announced in a press release.
Footage has been circulating on social media showing a masked man in Memphis who stated, “I’m gonna kill a cop tonight. Get ready.”
Fights and unrest reportedly broke out across the city on Saturday.
