A young man from Indiana was fatally run over by a foreign big rig driver who fled the scene and left him to die, authorities say.

The horrifying incident unfolded in Cook County, Illinois, on June 24, but key information about the investigation has come to light this week.

Sebastian Stone, 23, was on his way to work just after 5 a.m. when he experienced tire issues and pulled over on the side of Interstate 80 to inspect.

While Stone was changing the blown tire, he was struck by an 18-wheeler that veered out of its lane.

The at-fault driver increased his speed and didn’t stop until he reached a yard in Bolingbrook, where he dumped the trailer, according to court records reviewed by WGN TV reporter Courtney Spinelli.

The driver picked up a new load and was bound for Cincinnati when Illinois State Police (ISP) reportedly attempted to contact him by phone, but he hung up.

He then abandoned his loaded rig at a truck stop in Hebron, Indiana, and took an Uber back to his personal vehicle at the yard in Bolingbrook.

ISP identified the suspect as 29-year-old Kuljeet Singh Kang. He was arrested and booked into Cook County Jail on June 26.

Data extracted from Kang’s phone indicates he was using a variety of apps in the moments before the collision, including YouTube, WhatsApp, and Snapchat.

While mainstream media continues to describe Kang as a “Palatine man,” he is reportedly an Indian national in the U.S. on a green card.

A 2021 video posted on Facebook by Hawk Truck Driving School appears to show Kang boasting in a foreign language about receiving his Commercial Driver’s License from the state of Illinois.

Based in Palatine, Illinois, Hawk Truck Driving School offers classes in English, Spanish, Punjabi, Urdu, and Hindi.

Kang has been charged with one count of leaving the scene of a fatal injury crash and one count of reckless homicide, both felonies.

A GoFundMe has been established by the family of Sebastian Stone, who is described by his brother as the “sweetest, kindest, funniest person i will ever know. He could never stay mad at anyone, he was a lover, never a fighter.”

“Out of all 5 siblings he was the best one out of us all and me and all my siblings will tell you how true that is.”

We have reached out to the Department of Homeland Security for more information on this case and will provide updates if they become available.
