Gas Hits $4 a Gallon Again as US and Iran Continue To Trade Attacks

US gas prices rose to $4 a gallon again as the US and Iran continued to exchange strikes for the eighth day in a row.

The national average is now about $4 a gallon. The average price a year ago was $3.14 a gallon.

Gas prices first rose beyond $4 a gallon during March, in the early weeks of the war.

They then dipped below that mark in June and continued to fall when the US and Iran reached an interim peace deal.

As markets opened this morning, the international standard Brent Crude rose 3.2% to $90.95 a barrel, and benchmark US crude rose 2.8% to $84.04 a barrel.

The price of gas, and affordability more generally, is likely to be a significant issue in the midterm elections, which will take place in November.

On Sunday, the eighth consecutive day of strikes against Iran, the US hit a nuclear power plant that is currently under construction.

According to Iran’s Atomic Energy Organization, the US hit the Darkhovin facility in the southwest of the country.

“An attack on a peaceful nuclear facility under international safeguards is a clear violation of international law,” the organization said on X.

The extent of the damage was not revealed.

The International Atomic Agency has said the attack does not “pose any radiological risk” because there was no radioactive material there.

President Trump has intensified attacks on Iran after the deaths of US personnel at the end of last week.

Two US personnel were killed after an attack on a US base in Jordan.

“The strikes are designed to further degrade Iran’s ability to threaten commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz and swiftly punish Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps forces who launched attacks against American service members in Jordan last night,” US Central Command (CENTCOM) said.

On Saturday, Alex Jones Live reported that the Trump administration is sending dozens of refueling planes to Israel in advance of a significant escalation of military operations against Iran.

Sources spoke to Axios and said President Trump is considering “a massive offensive in Iran that would be wider in scope than the current strikes around the Strait of Hormuz.”

“Among the options being considered are bombing Iranian infrastructure facilities like power plants, conducting more attacks on Iran’s nuclear facilities in order to bury Iran’s enriched uranium even deeper, and bombing the Pickaxe Mountain underground site that is suspected to be a facility in the making,” Axios reports.

The sources said President Trump has yet to make a final decision on escalating strikes, but it could come within the next few days.

The US currently has 30 refueling planes at Ben Gurion International Airport near Tel Aviv and around the same number in Ramon Airport in southern Israel.

The plan is to send several dozen more in the coming days, probably to Ben Gurion, because it is the safest location for them.
