An illegal alien with ties to Tren de Aragua (TdA) was working as a teacher in Illinois prior to her recent deportation by federal immigration authorities.
Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) just announced the removal of 32-year-old Giovanna Mercedes Moreno Occhipinti on July 15.
Moreno Occhipinti “helped facilitate” a TdA mass shooting at a Chicago house party in December 2024, according to the Department of Homeland Security (DHS).
Moreno Occhipinti, who holds dual citizenships with Venezuela and Italy, helped two TdA members evade law enforcement following the shooting, investigators say.
She was arrested after Chicago police found weapons in her vehicle immediately after the incident, but was quickly released by authorities in the sanctuary city without ICE being notified.
Incredibly, the Cook County State Attorney’s office chose to not prosecute any of the suspects involved.
Homeland Security Investigations Chicago later arrested Moreno Occhipinti on May 13, 2026, and she remained in federal custody until her removal last week.
Moreno Occhipinti entered the U.S. under the Visa Waiver Program in October 2021, but failed to depart before Jan. 2, 2022, and lived in the country illegally for several years.
She was reportedly employed as a teacher at an unspecified school in Elgin, Illinois, for an undisclosed period of time.
“This illegal alien who used to work as a teacher was involved in a mass shooting in Chicago that killed three people and injured others,” said DHS Acting Assistant Secretary Lauren Bis.
“Although Chicago police arrested this illegal alien shortly after the shooting, sanctuary politicians released her from jail without notifying ICE. Under President Trump and Secretary Mullin, DHS is doing the job that sanctuary politicians in Illinois refuse to do: putting the American people first and removing these dangerous criminals from our communities.”
We frequently report on the nefarious activities of Tren de Aragua, which the Trump administration designated as a Foreign Terrorist Organization in 2025.
