A man who attempted to violently steal a car with a family inside before being shot and killed by the father has reportedly been identified as an illegal alien from Mexico.
The shocking incident unfolded on Sunday afternoon in Garland, Texas, as we previously reported.
The suspect initially crashed a vehicle into two others before bailing out and attempting to force entry to several other cars at a nearby gas station, police say.
He then made his way to a nearby shopping center where he attacked the driver of a sedan carrying a large family with children, surveillance footage shows.
The driver can be seen pointing a pistol at the suspect, who seemed unfazed and continued to fight for control of the vehicle as occupants jumped out and ran to safety.
After the suspect managed to get behind the wheel, the driver ran around to the passenger side and apparently discharged his firearm.
The suspect was rushed to a local hospital where he was pronounced deceased.
He was identified as Jose Ramirez, a 30-year-old Mexican national who was in the U.S. illegally.
The father is not expected to face charges at this time.
“It seemed to be self-defense,” stated Garland Police Lt. Pedro Barineau.
“It kind of all happened really fast.”
We have reached out to the Department of Homeland Security for more information on this case and will provide updates if new details become available.

I love starting the day with wonderful news!!!
Nice happy ending but why did it take the passengers so long to get out of the car?
