The war with Iran has been ended, according to President Donald Trump in a Thursday night audio call during a telerally for the Georgia governor’s race. Trump’s statement is based off a memorandum of understanding which was agreed to by teams from both Washington and Tehran.
“I don’t know if you heard, but we ended the war with Iran today, and they have agreed never to have a nuclear weapon, something that we insisted on. That was the whole purpose,” Trump said.
Israeli Prime Minister has been interfering with Trump’s peace efforts after dragging the U.S. into war against Iran.
“Trump’s announcement that a deal had been finalized came as a surprise to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu,” Axios said Thursday night. “In recent days, Netanyahu found himself in the dark, calling allies close to the Trump administration to try and gather information, according to a U.S. source with direct knowledge.”
According to Axios, the U.S.-Iran memorandum of understanding “would extend the ceasefire for 60 days, including in Lebanon, during which time nuclear negotiations would be held. The text includes a framework for addressing Iran’s enriched uranium stockpile, though any action on Iran’s nuclear program would depend on a second, more detailed accord.”
Earlier in the day the President was preparing to escalate the war after declaring Iran’s military to be completely destroyed on Wednesday. He later canceled the planned strikes. Now the war is over, according to Trump.
The President has already declared victory for months, but on Monday he also said he will declare victory again in the next couple weeks.
“We’ve been a very tough team, and I think we are winning that battle. But you’re really going to win it over the next two weeks when we declare total victory. It’ll be a total victory. It’ll happen very soon, and oil prices will come tumbling down,” Trump said Monday.
