The leader of the violent international narco gang Tren de Aragua was killed in a US military strike on Friday.
President Trump announced the killing of Héctor Rusthenford Guerrero Flores, also known as Niño Guerrero, in a post on Truth Social.
“Early in my Administration, I delivered on my promise to designate Tren de Aragua as a Foreign Terrorist Organization, deport thousands of evil criminals, and wage war against the Cartels, who have long been waging war against our Citizens, while weak leaders left America helpless and defensive,” the president posted on Truth Social.
“This action was coordinated closely with our friends in Venezuela, with whom we are working very well.”
The Trump administration designated Tren de Aragua a foreign terrorist organization in January 2025, due to its role in drug and human trafficking, extortion and violent crime in the US and across Latin America.
Members in the US were designated as “alien enemies” using the 1798 Alien Enemies Act to allow them to be deported quickly; although this designation was subject to legal challenges.
The killing of the group’s leader is the latest kinetic action against the group by the US military, which has also been hitting suspected drug boats in the Caribbean and Pacific.
