British activist Tommy Robinson was detained by law enforcement upon landing at London’s Heathrow Airport on Saturday, announcing on social media that he was held for three hours and had his phone taken by police.
Robinson was stopped under the provisions of Schedule 3 of the Counter-Terrorism and Border Security Act 2019, according to his post.
The UK activist had just returned from a trip to Russia where he met with 𝕏 owner Elon Musk’s father.
A individual posting on Robinson’s account shared an image of paperwork he received from police during the interrogation after a social media user claimed the news of his detainment was a “lie.”
Tommy shared additional documents related to his detention.
English actor and comedian John Cleese sarcastically replied, “Did he stab someone?” in response to a Financial Times article covering Robinson’s detainment.
Musk joked, “He used words that the pro-stabbing politicians didn’t like.”
Following the brief arrest, Canadian journalist Ezra Levant explained Tommy wasn’t “actually charged,” and was instead arrested and questioned before having his devices seized before being allowed to leave.
“So they’re using terrorism laws to spy on a peaceful political dissident. They’re not even pretending not to abuse the law,” he noted.
Robinson had been tied to demonstrations in the UK and Belfast, Ireland, in recent weeks after promoting the protests in response to violent attacks on white citizens by foreigners.
Just one month ago, Musk predicted the British government would “probably arrest Tommy Robinson” after he led a million-man march against UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer.
On Sunday, American rock star Tom Morello, the communist guitarist for Rage Against The Machine, displayed an anti-Robinson sign during a concert in Leicestershire, England.
“Fuck Tommy Robinson,” was written on the back of Morello’s guitar during the performance.
The British government has harassed Robinson for over a decade, jailing him for nearly three years since 2013 on various charges clearly brought in retaliation for his activism.
